Let’s Talk About IT: The Big Shift- Virtual, Traditional, or both?

Virtual/Cloud vs. Traditional On-Premise Servers: An old discussion in a current era. Let’s weigh in and LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

The year 2020. What a ride it has been for most, due to some very interesting surprises that may or may not have impacted industry in which you conduct your business. We, whether we like it or not, have been introduced to COVID-19 and the many challenges that come with adjusting to a new way of thinking, doing, seeing, and believing. Let’s face it, life has changed very rapidly and has forced many businesses to seek financial assistance to stay afloat, with some businesses shutting their doors forever.

We get it. How can you continue to have a successful business when you cannot so much as be in the presence of your customer? Let’s Talk About IT.

One thing that COVID-19 did well was inform or remind, depending on whom you are talking to, the benefits of having a cloud-based infrastructure for businesses. The concept of the cloud was introduced to the world back in the 1950’s with mainframe computers and later progressed in the 1970’s into virtualization, however such technology was primarily available to government organizations. In 1999, cloud computing was generally introduced to the world with the creation of Salesforce CRM. Salesforce and businesses alike shifted the traditional mindset into a new reality with network services like Amazon Web Services being introduced in 2002.

Over the years, many organizations have adopted to a virtual work environment, especially within the technology industry allowing their employees to work virtually from any location and at any time. Traditional network environments remain a high priority to some organizations, but there is also the option of having a hybrid network that would include components of both environments allowing for customization for the organization that meets security standards and organizational requirements.

The question remains, is there really a big shift? No. Well, at one point there was many, many years ago. 2020, has simply placed the concept of working from a virtual location in the spotlight due to the influx of organizations that were or are negatively impacted by state and federal mandates due to COVID-19. The technology has been available for decades, and now many are taking this time to explore new methods and environments to remain relevant within their industry.

Change can be uncertain, and change can certainly be scary, however virtualization, may do the trick. We suggest consulting with an expert who can assess your existing network environment and provide your organization with an evaluation of best practices for your business.
